Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • A pinch of garlic powder
  • A small pinch of sugar
  • 2 tbsp shredded cheese

Equipment

  • Child-safe knife
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Measuring spoon
  • Pastry brush
  • Baking tray
  • Parchment paper
  • Oven

Method

  1. Prepare the bread. Place the bread slices on a clean cutting board. With adult guidance, use a child-safe knife to cut the bread into long strips.
  2. Make the butter mixture. Add the melted butter and garlic powder to a small bowl. Invite children to gently stir the mixture.
  3. Brush the bread. Use a pastry brush to spread the butter mixture evenly over each bread strip.
  4. Add the toppings. Let children sprinkle a small amount of sugar and shredded cheese over the bread. Encourage careful, controlled movements.
  5. Arrange the bread fries. Place the prepared bread strips on a lined baking tray, leaving a little space between each piece.
  6. Bake with adult supervision. An adult should place the tray in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C). Bake for 4–5 minutes, or until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted.
